Equitable Digital Access is to ensure that everyone has access to the digital world of technology regardless of race, gender, nationality, socio-economic status, or any other factors. Allowing students the opportunities to take full advantage of their education through technology has evolved over the years. In most classrooms students work with the traditional paper and pencil methods, nonetheless education is moving towards a digital approach to learning. The use of technology in the classroom creates a rich tech-savvy environment that allows students to become familiar with various formats of technology. Some students does not have the luxury to have technology at home and equitable digital access gives them that opportunity to be exposed.
Schools that are preparing young people for 21st century pathways understand the need for such environments and their responsibility to “develop the skills needed for critical evaluation, online collaboration and communication and behaviours which support safe, responsible and ethical use of digital technology” (Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, 2010, p.8).
